What made it all the more devastating
is that I suffered not one,
but two losses.
I could have handled one.
But I was too preoccupied
and the first went unnoticed.
Only after I lost you
did I realize
that in all the chaos
I had also lost
— myself.
she asked,
‘you are in love,
what does love look like’
to which i replied,
‘like everything i’ve ever lost
come back to me’
I saw more that just
myself in you, I saw who
I wanted to be.

a place for you to rest your bones;
keep a bit of the sky in your eyes
where two bluebirds can fly alone.
